Lapchi, which is so called Milarepa's
Hermitage, is situated to the southwest of Tingri and east of Nyalam.
Milarepa, the famous Tibetan Yogi (poet & singer as well) lived
and died in this region, so the region became one of the most sacred
destination in the Himalayas after Kailash and Tsari. We usually
know about the Miparepa's Cave of it, actually there are verities
of cave hermitages in Lapchi.
We commence our trekking from Pelgyeling (near Nyalam) which is
situated on the friendship highway. From Pelgyeling, we trek to
Tashigang (the cave of Sang Phuk and chapel founded by Dhuldzin
Rinpoche) and Jamgang La (Kang-La) then eventually reaching Lapchi.
In Lapchi, we take an extra day to explore around the region then
return to Nyalam via the same route.
Nyalam is situated about 35 km inside of Tibet from the Nepal boarder
(Kodari), so it is practical to commence this trek from Kodari (border
town of Nepal ). Kodari is 115 km north-east from Kathmandu . It
requires a 5 hours overland journey to reach there there from Kathmandu
.
Alternatively, travelers can fly to Lhasa from Kathmandu or from
mainland China then travel to Tashigang on 4WD Jeep via Gyantse
and Shigatse then commence trekking to Lapchi. The best time for
trekking in Lapchi is between May and September.
Trekking itinerary for Lapchi (Fly in / drive our tour)
Duration : 16 days
Day 01: Flight Kathmandu to Gonggar
airport - meet at the airport and transfer to Lhasa - Evening, free.
Day 02 & 03: Sightseeing
in Lhasa : We visit Potala Palace , Jorkhang Temple & Barkhor
street , Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery and Norbulinka Palace
.
Day 04: A full day sightseeing
trip to Ganden Monastery. Evening come back to Lhasa
Day 05: Drive to Tsurpu Monastery, o/n guest house
in Yangpacheng or Tsurpu
Day 06: Tsurpu Monastery
Day 07: Drive back to Lhasa . Free in the afternoon
Day 08: Drive Lhasa/Gyantse via Yamdrok Lake,
o/n in Gyantse
Day 09: Visit Pelku Chode and Kumbum, drive to
Shigatse, o/n in Shigatse
Day 10: Visit Tashilunbo Monastery, drive to Tingri,
o/n in Tingri
Day 11: Drive to Nyalam, free.
Day 12-14: Commence trekking from Nyalam-Tashigang-Jamgangla-Lapchi,
visit Milarepa's Caves. En route, we will camp.
Day 15: Back to Nyalam
Day 16: Drive to Zhangmu, cross border then drive
back to Kathmandu. |
