Goechela trek is one of the most popular treks
in Sikkim . The trek commences from Yuksam and leads you all the
way to Dzongri, from here onward the alpine region of Thangsing
and Samiti Lake (4200 m) starts. The highlight of this trek is “Goechela”,
a famous vantage point situated at an elevation of 4940 m. which
offers some spectacular mountain views of Mt. Kanchenjunga , Talung,
Pandim and Talung glacier. The trek has an option to make excursions
to Bikbari, HMI base camp in Ratong glacier and to Lampokhari glacial
lake.
Day 01 : Arrive in Gangtok
Arrive, Bhadrapur airport ( Nepal ) / Bagdogra airport ( India )
/ or New Jalpaiguri train station. We will meet you there and transfer
you to Gangtok. Stay overnight at Hotel
Day 02 : Sightseeing tour in Gangtok
A full day sightseeing tour in Gangtok. We visit Enchey Monastery,
Do Drul Chorten, Research Institute of Tibetology, Purba Chorten,
Government Institute of Cottage Industries (GICI). After lunch,
we visit Rumtek Monastery which is situated 24 km from the main
city. Stay overnight hotel
Day 03 : Gangtok / Yuksum (1760 m)
Morning, after breakfast, we set off for Yuksum. En route, we visit
Bonn monastery near Ravongla. It is a 6 hour journey. Stay overnight
in hotel.
Day 04 : Yuksum / Tshoka (3050 m)
After breakfast, we commence our trek to Tshoka through thick lush
green forest of pine and oak. We cross river Prek Chu then start
uphill climb to Bakhim village then continue to Tshoka village .
O/N Lodge
Day 05 : Tshaoka / Dzongri (Alt. 4020 m)
Morning after breakfast, we commence our journey to Dzongri. From
Tshoka the trail is quite steep as well as passes through the lush
thick forest of rhododendrons with vast array of flowering plants
over 400 species. We reach at a place called Deorali Dada (hillock)
which provides spectacular views of mountain ranges. From Deurali,
we continue our journey to Phethang where we take a break.
From Phethang, we still will ascend for a while and eventually
reach Dzongri, here the forest becomes very thin and we find only
small bushes and shrubs. O/N hut
Day 06 : Dzongri / Thangsing (3930 m) – 4 hours
It is a four hours walk from Dzongri to Thansing, the trail at the
beginning is flat and passes through the bushes. Later, it rapidly
descends to the river Prek. O/N camp
Day 07 : Thangsing / Samiti Lake (4200 m)
The trek from Thansing to Samiti Lake takes about approx 3 hrs.
It is just an easy trek through thin vegetation. O/N camp
Day 08 : Samiti Lake / Goechala (4940 m) then back to Samiti
It is approximately 7 hours trek to Goechala and return. The trail
in the beginning is an easy, later it passes through moraines before
reaching Goechala. En route, we can view green lake formed right
below the path deep down. We retrace to Samiti. O/N camp
Day 09 : Samiti / Cokchorung (3000 m)
It is approximately three hours trek from Samiti to Cokchurung.
O/N lodge.
Day 10 : Cokchorung / Tshoka
A long trekking day through thick forest, it approximately takes
5 hours. From Cokchorung the entire trail gradually descends to
Tshoka. O/N camp
Day 11 : Tshoka / Yuksum
The trek from Tshoka to Yuksum takes about 6 hrs. O/N hotel
Day 12 : Drive back to Darjeeling . Stay overnight at Hotel
Day 13 : A full day sightseeing tour in Darjeeling
Day 14 : Departure from Darjeeling for onward destination |
