Makalu Barun National Park and conservation area
consists of over 1500 sq km , which extends from low ranges at 500
m. to the high Nepal Himalaya at over 8,000 m.
Most of this protected area is remote wilderness;
because of its diversity it is a fantastic venue for more adventurous
nature lovers. More than 3,000 species of flowering plants have
been recorded , the wildlife includes the endangered red panda,
musk deer, Himalayan black bear, clouded leopard and possibly the
snow leopard as well. Over 400 species of birds also thrive here.
If you are looking to combine study of the flora and fauna with
some strenuous hiking this area is highly recommended.
