Everest Base Camp and Gokyo Lake Trek

An addition to the Everest Base Camp trek
is a trek to the Gokyo Lake . Gokyo is
located immediately west of the Khumbu valley; it is much less traveled
or developed than the main trail
The Gokyo valley is dominated at its head by the
massive and almost over baring form of Cho-Oyu (8153 meters)
. From Gokyo we ascend to Gokyo Ri (two
hours)for some spectacular views before retracing to Gokyo, we then
follow the south easterly trail to Thagnag Kharka
A further two days are spent reaching Lobuche
on the main Everest trail .
Lobuche to Kalapatthar takes a further two days
via the lateral moraine of the Everest glacier
where there are spectacular high mountain views of Everest
, Nuptse and Lhotse .
Five days are taken retracing to Lukla for the
flight back to Kathmandu .
